"I can't believe it's been over six years since the start of Traffic One in Peoria. For me, it all started 20 years ago when the all-news radio station in Chicago, 670 WMAQ, starting doing something new at the time; round-the-clock traffic reports every 10 minutes. Suddenly there was a demand for traffic reporters. I was in college at the time and working at the school's radio station (playing high energy dance records) when the opportunity came up. I started doing mobile traffic reports before being called up to the Shadow Traffic Network studios on the 94th floor of the John Hancock Building. I began anchoring traffic reports in the late 80's. I left traffic briefly to do morning news at a music station in the northwest suburbs. In the mid 90's, I became the drive-time airborne traffic reporter for WBBM NewsRadio 780. My airborne career nearly came to an abrupt halt in July of 1999 when the traffic plane I was in lost power and went down in a muddy construction site in the western suburbs. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt and the next day I was back on the job (only in a different plane). Before leaving Chicago to start up Traffic One in Peoria, I was doing news, traffic and weather on WLS 890 TalkRadio as "Grant Parke."

Mike Sabol

Mike Sabol's traffic reporting experience started on a cold morning in February 1988, better known then as WMBD Traffic-Scan. In 1989, Mike spent an afternoon behind the scenes at Chicago's Shadow Traffic in the Hancock Center. During the 4th of July celebrations in 1998 & 99, Mike flew over Peoria in a Cessna 172 - providing traffic reports for SkyConcert. 2005 brought in Upgrade-74 and the closure of the Murray-Baker bridge, Mike provided mobile traffic reports from work zones, traffic snarls and lane closing accidents. Currently, Mike provides fill-in studio reports for Ken Zurski and mobile traffic reports when traffic situations warrant.
