Roadwork Projects

EAST PEORIA – The realignment of West Washington Street, part of the East Peoria Downtown project, will begin March 21. The project will occur from the railroad tracks in the 200 block of West Washington, at the Public Safety Building, to the Riverfront Drive overpass.     Starting March 21, daily lane closures will occur to allow for island removal.  The lanes will be reopened each evening.     Beginning March 28, the interior two lanes of West Washington will be closed. The outside two lanes will be open to traffic in each direction. This portion of the project will be completed in the fall. At that time, the new Technology Boulevard, which will run through the East Peoria Downtown project, will be open and traffic will then be routed onto the new road.     Once completed, Washington Street between the Public Safety Building and Edmund Street will remain largely intact and be resurfaced.     Motorists are advised to use alternate routes if possible, including the Interstate 74 Riverfront Drive ramps and the Cedar Street Extension.
