Roadwork Projects

PEORIA The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that utility work on IL 8 (Washington Rd.) between Summit Dr. and Legion St. in Washington is scheduled to begin Thursday, March 1st, weather permitting. Traffic may be reduced to one lane, controlled by flaggers, while the utility work is completed. This work is in preparation for the reconstruction of this section of roadway. Road construction and utility work will continue along this stretch of IL 8 throughout the year. The associated project consists of construction of five lanes of concrete pavement, medians, storm sewer, new sidewalks, and new driveways from Summit Dr. to Legion St. in Washington. The roadway portion of the project is expected to be completed by mid-November of 2013.

EAST PEORIA The realignment of West Washington Street, part of the East Peoria Downtown project, will begin March 21. The project will occur from the railroad tracks in the 200 block of West Washington, at the Public Safety Building, to the Riverfront Drive overpass.     Starting March 21, daily lane closures will occur to allow for island removal.  The lanes will be reopened each evening.     Beginning March 28, the interior two lanes of West Washington will be closed. The outside two lanes will be open to traffic in each direction. This portion of the project will be completed in the fall. At that time, the new Technology Boulevard, which will run through the East Peoria Downtown project, will be open and traffic will then be routed onto the new road.     Once completed, Washington Street between the Public Safety Building and Edmund Street will remain largely intact and be resurfaced.     Motorists are advised to use alternate routes if possible, including the Interstate 74 Riverfront Drive ramps and the Cedar Street Extension.
