New Roadwork Projects
*7/17 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that I-474 Exit 3A (westbound Farmington Rd.) and the entrance to westbound I-474 from Maxwell Rd. will be closed from Saturday, July 17th until Monday, July 19th. Detour routes will be posted.
*7/17 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that, weather permitting, construction will begin Monday, August 2nd on IL 251 from El Paso to one mile south of the McLean county line south of Kappa. Pavement patching, milling, and resurfacing are planned for this project. Drivers should expect daily lane closures from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm throughout its duration. Delays should also be anticipated. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-November.
War Memorial Drive
*5/27 - US 150 (War Memorial Dr.) in Peoria. The project limits begin just east of Knoxville Ave. and head eastward approximately one mile through the intersection of Prospect Dr. This project consists of pavement patching, surface removal & replacement, and other collateral work. Expect intermittent lane closures in both eastbound and westbound directions while the project is underway. The scheduled completion date is late August.
Allen Road Closure
Peoria County - Allen Road is closed to thru traffic between Alta Road and Hickory Grove Road until approximately August 2, 2010. A detour will be posted on Alta Road, IL Route 40 (Knoxville Ave), and Hickory Grove Road. Access will be allowed to Chandler Court, Benton Court, Kaylie Court, Minders Drive, Murphy Drive, and Chase Drive during this road construction project. Access to Wilhelm Road, west of Allen Road, will be allowed from IL Route 40. The Peoria County Highway Department requests motorists find an alternate route during the closure.
City of Peoria Projects!
*7/13 - Wisconsin Avenue will be closed from Republic to Kansas for road construction and sewer repair starting Thursday July 15.The road will be closed for about a month contingent upon weather. Traffic will be detoured on Nebraska and McClure to Prospect.
*7/13 - Starting on Thursday, July 15th, northbound Sheridan Road will be closed from McClure to Loucks, to allow reconstruction of the sanitary sewer. Southbound traffic will still be allowed and all businesses within and near the construction will remain open and accessible. The closure of the northbound lane is anticipated to last up to one week. Once the sewer reconstruction is finished in the northbound lane, the southbound lane of Sheridan Road will be closed to traffic from Loucks to McClure. Again, all businesses will remain open and accessible. Closure of the southbound lane is anticipated to last several weeks. During the construction, street parking on Sheridan Road from Loucks to McClure will be prohibited.
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that patching work will begin Monday, June 21st on the southbound lanes of William Kumpf Blvd. in Peoria. Motorists should expect lane closures through July on Kumpf Blvd. from the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. to the intersection of Jefferson Ave.
*The Northbound right hand lane of Sheridan Road at Columbia Terrace will be closed for storm sewer repair starting Monday June 14th. Construction should take approximately two weeks, contingent upon weather.
*Northmoor Road between Knoxville Avenue and Sheridan Road is closed to eastbound traffic for the construction of new storm sewer and pavement. One-way traffic westbound from Knoxville Avenue to Sheridan Road will be maintained. Marked detours for eastbound traffic are in place. Motorists bound for Midstate College, Jayar Drive, Northmoor Road and Northmoor Court must enter from Knoxville Avenue and exit toward Sheridan Road. This traffic pattern will be in effect until the new pavement is completed, near the end of summer.
Traffic Warning!
*NEW* 7/13The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces the temporary closure of IL 26 in Putnam County, approximately 4.5 miles north of IL 18.This road closure is necessary due to a sinkhole in the pavement. Detours are being determined and will be posted for motorists while this temporary closure is in effect. A date for re-opening this portion of IL 26 has not yet been determined. Motorists should plan accordingly.
*The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces construction on IL 116 from the west city limits of Metamora to the west city limits of Roanoke. This work will consist of patching, milling and resurfacing, as well as an intersection improvement at Douglas Rd. in Metamora. Motorists should expect lane reductions in this area through the end of October.
* The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that beginning Wednesday, June 16th the intersection of US 150 and Washington Blacktop in Tazewell County will become a four-way stop. Work has been underway the past two months at this location. The intersection has been widened and converted to a four-way stop as part of this project. Motorists, particularly those traveling eastbound or westbound, should be alert and look for signs indicating the change.
* 6/11 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces construction on US 24 from Eureka to the McLean County border, east of El Paso. Pavement patching, milling, concrete median replacement and resurfacing are planned for this project. Drivers should expect daily lane closures from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm throughout its duration. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-October.
*In Tazewell County...west of Morton...Broadway Road is scheduled closed between Tennessee and Washington Road through December 2010 for bridge replacement. Also, work continues on Springfield Road between Route 98 and the East Peoria City Limits.
* 6/4 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces work on Maxwell Rd. between IL 116 and Farmington Rd. This project will also include work on the Maxwell Rd. connector and ramps to I-474. The project includes patching, milling and resurfacing and is scheduled to last until the end of August. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures. Detours will be posted when work is scheduled on the connector and the ramps. This particular work will take place on weekends only.
* 6/4 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that work on the project to improve IL 116 from Blackjack Blvd. in East Peoria to Germantown Hills. ntermittent lane closures should be expected while this project is underway. The project is expected to be completed this fall.
* The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that intermittent lane closures are in effect on IL 116 at the Spoon River near London Mills in Fulton County through mid-September motorists should expect the bridge to be reduced to one lane and controlled by temporary traffic signals while crews perform repairs to the bridge.
Traffic Projects Underway!
*NEW* 6/4 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that beginning Wednesday, June 2nd motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on IL 9 from Olt Ave. in Pekin to Chestnut St. in Tremont. These closures are necessary for the patching, milling, and resurfacing of this portion of IL 9 and will be in effect until early September..
* 5/27 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that, weather permitting, construction will begin on US 150 (War Memorial Dr.) in Peoria starting Tuesday, June 1st. * 5/27 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that the westbound passing (left) lane on the McClugage Bridge will be closed from Tuesday, June 1st through Friday, June 4th. The lane closure is necessary for crews to perform routine maintenance work under the bridge and will be in effect from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm each day. This work is weather dependent.
* 5/19 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that work will begin Wednesday, May 19th on a 15 mile section of US 150 in Knox County from the Peoria County line to the I-74 interchange. This work will consist of pavement patching, milling and bituminous paving and is expecting to last until mid-August. Motorists should expect daytime lane closures.
* 5/10 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that starting today, work will begin on IL 6 from US 150 (War Memorial Dr.) to I-74. The pavement patching, resurfacing and shoulder repair will require lane closures in the northbound and southbound lanes on weekdays. Traffic delays are anticipated. The project is scheduled to be completed in July.
* 5/7 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that, weather permitting, construction will begin Monday, May 10th on US 24 from Washington to Eureka. The project limits are Cummings Ln. (Washington) 9.5 miles eastward to Meyers St. (Eureka). This project consists of milling, resurfacing and traffic signal work. Motorists should expect lane closures in eastbound and westbound directions. The scheduled completion date of this project is mid-September.
* 5/3 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that beginning Tuesday, May 4th bridge repair work will begin on IL 117 over Mill Creek, 3.6 miles south of US 24 in Woodford County. Motorists will encounter one-way traffic at this location through the end of June. Temporary traffic signals will direct traffic.
* 4/23 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that starting the week of April 26th work will begin on IL 89 from IL 18 south to IL 17 and on IL 17 from IL 89 west to Lacon. Work will consist of patching, milling and resurfacing. There will be daily lane closures throughout the work zone.
* 4/23 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that on Wednesday, April 28th Airport Rd. will be reduced to one lane for most of the day for the first stage of the bridge pour over the Union Pacific Railroad. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic. Upcoming work will include the complete removal and replacement of the existing structure over the Union Pacific Railroad and the roadway between the bridge and IL 116, plus traffic signal upgrades at the intersection of Airport Rd. and IL 116. This work will continue into the fall.
* 4/23 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that on Wednesday, April 28th and Friday, April 30th motorists on I-74 at the US 34 interchange should expect 20 minute stoppages for placement of structural steel. These stoppages will take place periodically between approximately 7:00 am and 5:00 pm on these days. This work will also require the closure of the eastbound US 34 ramp to westbound I-74 on Wednesday, and the closure of the westbound US 34 ramp to eastbound I-74 on Friday.
* 4/20 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that patching and resurfacing operations will begin Tuesday, April 20th on IL 17 from Galva to the IL 17 / IL 180 junction. Drivers should expect daytime lane closures with flaggers present throughout the duration of project which is expected to be completed by July.
* 4/14 - Peoria County - Weather permitting, a mill and overlay project will begin on April 26 on Kickapoo-Edwards Road from US Route 150 to IL Route 8. The Highway Department requests motorists be aware of construction personnel along the roadway during tomorrow's placement of traffic control signs and use caution when passing.
* 4/8 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that starting Monday, April 12th work on IL 29 from IL 6 to Gardner Ln. will resume, weather permitting. The milling and resurfacing to be completed will require lane closures during the day in the northbound and southbound lanes. Drivers should expect to encounter these lane closures from approximately 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of May.
* 4/9 - Peoria...Phase II of the Hamilton Boulevard renovations will begin Monday, April 12, 2010. Hamilton Boulevard will be closed from the south side of Glen Oak to the north side of Glendale. This work is anticipated to last until September 4, 2010, weather permitting. Please pay close attention to detour signs directing you around this construction site as well as to and from the emergency room if needed.
*4/2 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that on Monday, April 12 th construction work will restart on IL Route 40 from just south of Hickory Grove to just north of Cedar Hill Dr. in Dunlap.This $11,500,000 project consists of widening IL 40 from two lanes to four lanes, with a bi-directional middle turn lane. Intersecting side roads will be reconstructed, realigned or relocated and new frontage roads and service drives will be constructed to control access.Work on this project started in September 2009 and some underground drainage work was completed during last fall. By the end of 2010 the contractor is expecting to complete and open to traffic all new lanes on IL 40. Some work off the IL 40 main line as well as landscape work may carry over to early 2011.Through traffic will experience minimal lane closures as the majority of the construction will take place to the west of existing IL Route 40. Further updates will be provided when traffic at intersections and side roads will be impacted.
*4/2 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that on Tuesday, April 6th IL Route 8 @ Reservoir Blvd. near Pottstown will be reduced to one lane. Traffic will be controlled by temporary signals. This lane closure is necessary for the removal and replacement of the bridge over Big Hollow Creek. Traffic will be reduced to one lane until approximately September 2010.
*4/2 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that starting Monday, April 5th intermittent lane closures will be in effect on eastbound and westbound I-74 from the Washington St. exit in East Peoria to just west of the Sterling Ave. exit in Peoria. The closures will primarily affect the passing lanes but could involve additional lanes. This is necessary for maintenance work on the high mast tower lighting fixtures adjacent to the Interstate. The work is expected to last approximately two weeks and drivers should expect to encounter lane closures from approximately 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. No weekend lane closures are expected. This work is weather permitting.
*4/2 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that beginning Wednesday, April 7th IL 29 just south of VFW Rd. in Pekin will be reduced to one lane with traffic being controlled by temporary signals. The lane reduction will be in effect for approximately three weeks and is necessary to facilitate the replacement of a box culvert under IL 29.
*4/2 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that on Monday, April 5th IL Route 9 at the McDonough/Fulton County line will be reduced to one lane. Traffic on IL 9 will be maintained through the use of temporary traffic signals and township road 2400 (at the county line) will be closed at IL 9. This bridge construction work is expected to last through October 2010.
*3/26 - Monday March 29th, construction work begins on IL 251 from El Paso to IL 116. Pavement patching, milling and resurfacing are planned for this project. Drivers should expect daily lane closures from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-August.
*3/23 – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that from Tuesday, March 23rd through Friday, March 26th motorists on I-74 at the US 34 interchange should expect 20 minute stoppages for the removal of existing beams. These stoppages will take place periodically between approximately 7:00 am and 5:00 pm on these days. This work will also require the closure of the westbound US 34 ramp to eastbound I-74 on Tuesday and Friday, and the closure of the eastbound US 34 ramp to westbound I-74 on Wednesday and Thursday.
*3/19 In Peoria...City crews will begin temporary road repairs west of Knoxville on Hickory Grove Road to Dunmore Street, starting March 22, 2010. Motorists can expect lane reductions and delays from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The work is expected to take one week.
*3/19 - Tuesday, March 23rd Airport Rd. will be reduced to one lane for most of the day for bridge beam placement over the Union Pacific Railroad. Airport Rd. will also be reduced to one lane intermittently on the 24th and 25th for similar operations with off-road work on the staged removal and replacement of the bridge. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic. Upcoming work will include the complete removal and replacement of the roadway between the bridge and IL 116, plus traffic signal upgrades at the intersection of Airport Rd. and IL 116. This work will continue into the fall.
*3/19 - Monday, March 22nd, weather permitting, IL 26 just south of Spring Bay in Woodford County will be reduced to one lane. This stage construction work will last approximately one week and drivers should expect intermittent lane closures during this time. Also, starting April 1st, the bridge that carries IL 26 over Blue Creek will be reduced to one lane through the end of August. The lane reduction is due to replacement of the bridge. Temporary signals will be in place during this time.
*3/18 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that construction on IL Rt. 8 (Washington St.) from east of Sunrise Ave. to west of Summit Dr. in East Peoria will resume Monday, March 22nd, weather permitting. Initial construction activities will involve pavement removal and storm sewer installation on the south side of the roadway. The project consists of reconstruction of the existing concrete pavement, new sidewalks and new driveways and is expected to be completed by the end of August. Landscaping is expected to be completed by November.Traffic patterns will remain in their current position on the north side of the roadway until mid-summer and access will be maintained to all properties throughout the project. However, alternate side street closures on the south side of IL 8 will take place to accommodate their construction.
*3/16 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that a portion of IL 116 will be reduced to one lane just west of Media in Henderson County starting Tuesday, March 16th. The lane reduction is necessary for crews to remove and replace drainage structures along IL 116. Signals will be used to direct traffic while the road is reduced to one lane and motorists are advised to be alert to lane closures and changing traffic patterns during this time. This work is expected to last through May 2010.
*3/05 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that work will resume Monday, March 8th at the intersection of Airport Rd. and IL 116 (Harmon Hwy/Plank Rd.) This work will entail off road work on the staged removal and replacement of the bridge carrying Airport Rd. over the Union Pacific Railroad. Upcoming work will include the complete removal and replacement of the roadway between the bridge and IL 116, plus traffic signal upgrades at the intersection of Airport Rd. and IL 116. This work will continue into the fall.
*3/05 - Peoria County...near Mapleton...beginning Wednesday, March 10th through September, the McClullough Road Bridge will be closed just west of Stranz Road for bridge replacement.
*12/10 - Peoria County...The intersection of Allen Road and Wilhelm Road will become a four-way stop beginning Friday, December 11. The intersection will be controlled by stop signs in all directions. Motorists should use caution when approaching and entering the intersection. Placement of the four-way stop is being done in preparation of future road construction at the intersection. A four-way stop will facilitate the flow of traffic during rush hour and allow for safer conditions during road construction.
*12/02 - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announces that construction on Illinois Route 8 (Washington St.) in Sunnyland from east of Sunrise Ave. to west of Summit Dr. will move into the next stage on Thursday, December 3rd, weather permitting. This stage will consist of reconstruction of the eastbound lanes and will move eastbound traffic to the third lane on the north side of IL 8. Westbound traffic will remain in one lane on the north side and a center turn lane will be in place. All traffic will remain in this new configuration on the new pavement (one lane in each direction and the center turn lane) until mid-summer 2010.

Roadwork Projects (ongoing)!
*Daytime lane closures are anticipated at the intersection of IL Route116 and Airport Road . The closures are necessary for curb, median, and island removal in the coming week. Off road work on the staged removal and replacement of the bridge carrying Airport Road over the Union Pacific Railroad will also continue. Upcoming work will include the addition of two turn lanes and traffic signal updates at the intersection of IL Route116 and Airport Road, shoulder and guardrail updates, and the complete resurfacing of the entire project.

More Roadwork Projects!
e 180 will be closed between Williamsfield and County Highway 24 (West Jersey Blacktop) for bridge replacement work. Traffic will be re-routed using Route 17, US Route 150 and IL Route 78.
